Get ready for one of the most prestigious grappling events of 2025. The Maccabi Gym in Nice an extraordinary No-Gi Summer Camp, bringing together a legendary lineup of instructors for an intensive week of elite training on the French Riviera. This isn't just a seminar; it’s a high-level technical immersion led by some of the most respected names in the game.
There are moments in a grappler’s life that transcend the sport, turning sweat and discipline into lifelong memories. This past July, I had the honor of traveling to the stunning city of Nice, France, for the 2025 No-Gi Summer Camp—an event that was much more than just a training seminar.
It was a week defined by high-level technique, the tightening of brotherhood, and a significant milestone for my family.
Training with the Elite at Maccabi Gym Hosted by my great friend and mentor, Flavio "Peroba", at the iconic Maccabi Gym, the atmosphere was electric. When you bring together minds like these, the technical evolution is exponential. We spent the week absorbing the systems of some of the best to ever do it:
Flavio Santiago (Peroba): As always, Flavio's Luta Livre roots reminded us that pressure and submission-hunting are the heart of the "Arte Suave."
Michelle Nicolini: Watching a Hall of Famer break down the mechanics of her guard was a masterclass in efficiency.
Johnny Frachey & Matthieu Barbier: Their explosive transitions and modern French MMA & grappling flair pushed everyone to their limits.
Andrea Lavaggi: Provided a deep dive into the tactical "chess match" of elite European No-Gi.
A Proud Milestone Caio Luiz (my son) Earns His Brown Belt, the highlight of the week, however, was deeply personal. My son, Caio Luiz, stood on the mats of Nice after years of dedication, sacrifice, and hard rounds.
It was a proud moment for me to witness him being awarded his Brown Belt during this camp. Seeing his growth as a man and an athlete, validated by a legend like Peroba and in the presence of such esteemed instructors, is a memory I will carry forever. The "Brown Belt" represents the final gateway to the elite, and there was no better place to receive it than surrounded by the global grappling community in Nice.
More Than Just Mats, between the grueling sessions at Maccabi Gym, we took in the beauty of the Côte d'Azur. The "Fight-cation" lifestyle is real—recovering from intense sparring by the Mediterranean Sea with friends who have become family is what makes the Peroba Summer Camp unique.
To my friend Flavio, thank you for the hospitality and for keeping the flame of Luta Livre and No-Gi burning so bright in Europe. To the instructors, thank you for the knowledge. And to my son Caio, congratulations on your new rank. The journey to Black Belt continues, but the lessons learned in Nice have prepared us for whatever comes next.
